Pre-printed donor addresses rather than areas they fill in by hand.

Hi everyone.

I've looked to see if this has been addressed before and can't find anything so forgive me if it has.

We are about to do Gift Aid campaign, asking our donors that haven't already made a declaration, to do so.

Does anyone here have any experience of whether pre-printing donors names and addresses on the forms they send back to us significantly increases response rates?

I'm torn between pre-printing them and simply having blank fields for the donor to complete, I'm also using this as an excercise to aquire donors phone numbers and email addresses, something I feel they are less likely to provide if they don't have to write their name and address too.

I hope that makes sense.

Has anyone had any experience of the difference?

It's one of the truisms of DM: the more stuff you fill in, the less they have to do, the more you get back. Almost invariable.

It would certainly be more thoughtful, and easier for your donors, if you had their details pre-printed. Therefore I'd suggest you do it anyway regardless of response rate.

Hi James,

Though I am not an exprienced fundraiser but have some marketing experience.
I think the best approach for you is to do some tests with, say, 50 pre-printed addresses and 50 blank ones.
Then you'd see what the response rate is like, you could compare the results and you'd have a general idea about the expected result.
You could also analyse which method was more successful in aquiring further contact details.
This might take a couple of weeks but I don't think there's a quick fix to this.
