Hi,
I am in the process of arranging a ladies night which would include strippers etc in aid of the charity I work for which is for children with disabilities.
I have since been told that I might not be able to do this type of event as it's a childrens charity. Can anyone confirm this?
Obviously no children would be allowed to the event but the money raised would go towards the children.
thanks for your help in advance

RE: Law regarding ladies night for children's charity
[quote]Hi Kara, if this does get the go ahead, have you got the strippers arranged already because I'd quite like to volunteer as it's such a good cause. I'm 6'2", 30 years old, white and of athletic build. I can send pictures. If you'd like to meet to discuss this let me know.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards

RE: Law regarding ladies night for children's charity
Be prepared from some emails from men asking where 'their' night is!
Other than that, providing the charity agrees then I don't see the harm.
The charity would be within their rights not to agree though I think - especially if they are working with vulnerable children at risk of exploitation. It wouldn't take much for a tabloid to seriously damage their name by selective use of facts.

Be aware also that accidents can happen.
A friend (of the female persuasion) went to a ladies night and the stripper ended up inviting a couple of ladies onto the stage.
My friend somehow got whiplash from being up close to the stripper and had to go to hospital. The staff there understandably wanted to know how it happened - then were killing themselves laughing!
Whiplash can happen from a stripper.
Seriously, even with totally tame events to raise money for a charity its always worth getting the charity to agree to the event and keep them informed.
I've known charities that have refused money raised by something that they don't want their name involved with in any way.
Others take the view (I believe to be from the founder of the Salvation Army). The problem with tainted money is there t'aint enough of it.
RE: Law regarding ladies night for children's charity
My view is that no money is "bad" money when it comes to real need.
However, a ladies' night is fairly "outrageous" and the charity may not want its name associated with such an event, I'm with George that you should talk to the charity itself.
RE: Law regarding ladies night for children's charity
I doubt there's anything in the law saying you can have strippers benefiting one type of charity, but not another!
I'd recommend you talk to somebody in the fundraising department at the charity concerned, so you can clear it with them. If you're doing it on a voluntary basis for the charity, and the event's legal (which it almost certainly will be), there shouldn't be a problem.
Good luck with it
