Can anyone give me any further information about I should go about introducing a membership scheme in to an already existing organsiation as a way to raise money - this is not my idea its something the trustees and staff want more detail on.
I personally think it should not be called a membership scheme and they should be going down the route of encouraging the centre users to make yearly donations, this way we can benfit from tax etc.
More advice if anyone has any please?

RE: Introduing Membership schemes
Hi, Lou
I think one of the first questions could be whether you already have a membership - what does your constitution say? If you are established using one of the standard Constitutions or Mem & Arts, you may already have Members, even if you don't know who they are!!!
If the proposed scheme is simply to raise funds, then it may be wise to call it "Friends of..." or something similar. This makes it clear that there is no benefit attached to the subscription, and therefore Gift Aid can be used.
If Members' only benefit is the right to vote at meetings, you may still be able to use Gift Aid. If, however, Membership confers additional rights and priveleges then you won't.
Come back if you need more, or contact me off-list if you prefer.
Cheers
Gerry
