Hi all.
Our partner organisation that we work closely with is going for charitable status for its own residential supported housing (4 different properties spread out with quite a number of vulnerable adults accommodated). Overall 1 charity to cover the 4 current and any future properties for their charitable activities.
My boss had 'volunteered' me to be their fundraiser for a percentage of the grants I get.
After saying no no no no no (having read on here about percentage commission) I'm now wondering how much I should charge per hour.
Just over a year's experience as a fundraiser, track record of £76K so far and the client group this new charity deals with are the same as the ones I fundraise for in my own charity.
My own charity pay is low because I was brand new when they took me on - but now I'm experienced (ish)
Any suggestions how much per hour should be a baseline?
I'm going to suggest working from home too - with its own health and safety check, computer etc.
Travelling an additional 12 miles each way on an additional two buses each way to get to work isn't my idea of cost effective work.

RE: Additional job - how much per hour?
Thanks Gerry.
I'm already self employed in partnership with my wife, doing a Kleeneze business for the past few years.
We claim 'use of home as office' for 1 room already for certain bills.
I want to work from home as much as I can with the new job as its main office and most of its parts are over 2 hours travel each way on the buses. And I cannot drive any more.
I plan to pop over to the office at least once a week or once every two weeks if possible, to keep in touch, deal with mail, see what I'm writing about and so on.
And once my open university courses have finished (in middle of one course now and there is a Fundraising course entitled Winning Resources and Support starting in Nov) I should be able to do more hours.
RE: Additional job - how much per hour?
A very small thought on working from home;
If you add the costs of running your home office to the costs of keeping body and soul together to achieve your salary target, you'll be taxed on the whole lot. HMRC will let you have a home office allowance if you separate it out (and I'm sure there are scales!)
Cheers
Gerry
RE: Additional job - how much per hour?
Thanks David.
Any extra money would be nice but I'll limit time to 10 hours a week on a regular basis.

It is your skills and abilities that are relevant here - if your can do the job / raise the funds then it is quite acceptable to go for a £22k equivelent. In (very) general terms fundraisers are on about £18K to £24K depending on skills, training and experience - the specialisms of Corporates and major gifts tend to pay more.
RE: Additional job - how much per hour?
Hi David, thanks for that.
This is an additional job. My pay is considerably below £22k. Best I can manage is part-time working due to health. So not many additional hours no matter what the other charity wants. :)
Is £22k a year level something I should negotiate on for the additional job? Or with that level of experience/expertise is a lower level appropriate?

You need to start with what you cost! If you aim to take home say £22K (is that average these days?) and you know the costs of working from home are say £2K you simply divide £24K by 260 (the days you work each year - including holidays) to give you a daily rate, divide this by the number of hours and so forth...
The important point is to make sure you include all your costs before you start dividing up by days!
Hope this helps
