We are currently looking to use our database to store CC numbers for donations taken over the phone. Currently we use a separate form not linked to the database and destroy the numbers afterwards. If we start using the database to record numbers do we have to let donors know? The database is a secure password protected site.
Thanks

RE: Storing Credit Card details
I presume your Data Protection registration is up to date.
There may be an issue about keeping the numbers for a limited period to allow donors to change their minds - you would have to refund a donation to the card from which it came.
Beyond that, yes, I think you should seek permission to retain those details indefinitely. Regular donors probably won't mind - one-off donors may be spooked if they come back for more and find you already have their details on record.
Cheers
