I am a Trust Fundraiser working in the Development Department of a leading Business School. I primarily fundraise for scholarships, research departments and adhoc projects. I have only been in post since November but have identified that I need to increase the existing number of trusts & foundations that support the University.

There is at present a fundraising plan (dated 2005) which hardly mentions trusts & foundations, in order to move things forward I have suggested that I come up with a fundraising strategy for the next three years. I have never done a strategy before and my line manager is basically asking me to come up with a document from scratch. At present I have spoken internally to colleagues within my own department and others to find out what the funding need are. I have also looked at key areas which I feel I need to focus on which are:

1. Aims, objectives and outcomes of strategy
2. What current documents are in place (my predecessor did a brief SWOT analysis)
3. Purpose of strategy
(i) Increase of funding
(ii) What has worked well
(iii) Lessons learnt
(iv) Financial targets
(v) How this links in to my own objectives
(vi) Sustainability

4. Recommendations to move things forward

I wanted to ask if anyone else has had to devise a strategy, have I missed anything out, are there any documents out there which provide guidance or do I have pretty much everything covered.
