Key changes to fundraising statements, part of the Charities Act 2006, come into force today. They are not optional, and affect charities, business that carry out promotional activities with a claim that money will be generated for charity, and businesses or individuals, known as professional fundarisers, who are paid to raise money or other donations for charities.

From today employees and trustees of a charity who are carrying out public collections will have to make a statement that they are being paid to do so. Professional fundraisers must state the actual amount or a realistic estimate of it.

Commercial participators have to state the amount they will receive or a reasonable estimate of what they will give as a donation, what donation they will give in relation to the price paid for their goods or service, or the actual amount they will receive.
