John Lewis Department Stores have chosen Wallace & Gromit's Children's Foundation as its Charity of the Year 2008.

The partnership was launched with a visit, appropriately enough, to the cheese room at John Lewis Oxford Street Foodhall by Aardman characters Wallace and Gromit.

Andy Street, Managing Director, John Lewis, said: "Our contribution to the communities where we trade is a vital part of what makes our business different and we are embracing not only the fundraising aspect of our alliance but also the opportunity to get involved in practical projects."

John Lewis aims to raise "as much money as possible" throughout the year which will help fund a variety of projects for over 20 children's hospitals and hospices.
