Fundraising for a commemorative plaque

Hope this is the right forum for my request - apologies if not.

I've recently obtained permission from Camden Council to erect a commemorative plaque in Endell Street, on the site of a large First World War military hospital run entirely by women doctors, under the leadership of Louisa Garrett Anderson. This was not only the first hospital founded by women for men, but also the only British army hospital ever to be run solely by women. At the time the Endell Street Military Hospital was incredibly well known, but has been totally forgotten today.

I have a committee, and we have commissioned a design from a well known artist. An engraved Cambrian slate plaque is going to cost between £3,500 and £4,000. We will be able to get about £3,000 from private donations (descendants of the women, interested individuals etc), but there will be a shortfall. The local community like the idea, but are unlikely to come up with much money.

Would anyone have suggestions for possible sources of funding for such an arts/heritage/medical-based project? It is a very small amount, I know. Would be very grateful.

If I've got the wrong forum, which one should I post to?
