Need advice please!

I need some advice and hopefully someone can help! My neice is in GOSH, and a local golf course which is run by friends are organising a charity casino night where the tickets cost £x amount and include a few betting chips. Any extra betting chips purchased throughout the night will be put in the pot, along with donations throughout the night, any profit from the ticket price (all staff are working for free that night) and all money from a raffle which is being held where local business's are donating prizes. I found out yesterday that the money raised is not going to be given to GOSH - instead to the parents of the little girl in GOSH as our friends believe the family are in financial trouble.
Even though I am family, I have issues with this as I am sure all the people donating prizes and money on the night would also have.
I do not want my friends to become tangled up in legal problems - please can someone advise if this is legal?
My neice is being treated on the NHS so she does not need to be flown to USA for pioneering operations are anything specific like that - this is purely a fund raising event to hand over money to the parents - is this allowed?
Many thanks in advance for any responses.
