This course will look at the barriers facing both potential volunteers and organisations providing volunteer roles. It is aimed at those involved in recruiting or supervising volunteers and will provide an open forum to gain impartial and practical advice on successfully involving volunteers with mental health issues.
With statistics showing that one in four people will have some kind of mental health needs at some point in their lives, the chances are you are already involving volunteers with support needs and perhaps unknowingly excluding others.
We will look at:
-
Current legislation, CRB requirements and recruitment practices.
-
Dilemmas, isssues or problems that you may have within your organisation that we can work on, to resolve together.
-
Best practice and solutions offered in the sector and beyond.
-
The benefits to your organisation of involving people with mental health needs.
-
Understanding how you can make volunteering work for all involved.
The course will help participants understand the issues faced by people with mental health needs and will look at ways in which you can make adjustments to your own processes and procedures to help overcome these issues.
