Bolton School seeks a Director of External Relations to lead the communications, development and marketing strategies which relate to the external community of parents, potential parents, donors, alumni and friends.

Bolton School is one of the North's largest pre-eminent day schools, offering academic excellence and outstanding facilities to 2300 pupils on a 32 acre campus. The Foundation, which consists of five schools, a nursery, a trading company and a number of associated trusts, is about to embark upon a £12 million expansion programme which will modernise the buildings available to all pupils. Equally important, the Governors wish to double the number of bursaries available for bright and talented children.

To support these ambitious development plans, the Foundation wishes to expand and strengthen both development and marketing in order to maximise relationships with stakeholders and secure additional revenue. This newly created role, reporting to the Clerk and Treasurer, will be closely aligned with the Governors and Heads of the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions. Managing a team of twelve, the successful candidate will initiate and implement strategies which will raise the School’s profile among its stakeholders and increase the awareness of, and rationale for, philanthropic giving.

Candidates from a variety of backgrounds are welcome, although familiarity with educational fundraising will be a significant advantage. The ability to articulate the distinctive ethos of Bolton School and to work both independently and with the Executive Officers, Governors and senior volunteers will be critical to the success of this post.

The remuneration package is highly competitive of £60Kplus and will be related to the successful candidate’s experience.
