The mission of SOI is to provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other SOI athletes and the community.
Based in Shoreditch, London for Special Olympics International and working as a team member for Special Olympics Great Britain, the Special Events Director will be responsible for launching an under-developed revenue stream in Western Europe as a pilot through initial hands-on special event start-ups in year one and moving to a coaching/training role as the pilot expands.
Key to this position will be the ability to recruit event participants and to achieve significant revenue through Friends Asking Friends events through organisational signature events as well as new event ideas, to recruit effective event committee volunteers, to execute on the events and to establish year-round cultivation of top fundraisers and team captains. The ability to work collaboratively with the leadership of participating Programmes and to move quickly to assess market conditions and opportunities is essential.
The successful candidate will have a college degree with more than three years of experience working with special event fundraising. Candidate will have demonstrated the ability to think strategically about event participant recruitment and to communicate organisational mission in ways to encourage fundraising. Candidate will have superior communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships with staff and volunteers in leadership positions.
Position will require the ability to travel and to work evenings and weekends. Salary is negotiable.
