One out of every 100 newborn children in India suffers from congenital heart disease, a defect commonly known as a hole in the heart. A significant number of the children with this defect are from economically poor families. These families are not able to afford the treatment due to their constrained economic conditions. MMHRC considers this cause very imperative for resolving through timely intervention, if left untreated most of them will not see their next birthday.
The cost of corrective surgery for each child is Rs. 1,00,000. Under the "Save the Little Heart Scheme" the hospital waives its fees and performs the correction for Rs. 50,000, the amount that is needed for medicine during treatment.
