Yorkshire Building Society gives £175,000 to its first charity of the year

Howard Lake | 2 February 2012 | News

Yorkshire Building Society has given £175,000 to Alzheimer’s Society, its first ever charity of the year. This is the company’s largest charitable donation.
Yorkshire, Barnsley and Chelsea building society staff and members raised £85,469 during 2011, and the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation matched the sum pound for pound. In this way they beat their original fundraising target of £100,000.
The highest amount raised by one individual – nearly £11,000, was raised by former Chief Executive Iain Cornish, who left the Society at the end of 2011. He completed a sponsored 170-mile cycle between the Bradford head office and the Chelsea Building Society’s head office in Cheltenham.
The Society’s charity of the year for 2012 is the RNLI.
