Ever wanted a character in a best-selling book to be named after you? Now you can, courtesy of the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture and some leading novelists.
Nearing its target of £4.7 million, the next event of the Foundation’s capital appeal is “The Immortality Auction”. Devised by Fundraising Director John Baguley, this event will see seven leading authors auctioning the name of a character in their next novel.
This simple idea has attracted Nick Hornby, Sebastian Faulks, Rose Tremain, Jim Crace, Kathy Lette, Hanif Kureishi and Louis de Bernieres.
The auction takes place at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly on 5th December at 6.30pm but places are very limited so wealthy fans of the above authors are encouraged to book early by calling Mena Gainpaulsingh at the Medical Foundation on 0207 813 9999 or to leave a bid and credit card details.
John Baguley said:

“Bids are expected to be in the thousands of pounds but this is the first time an event of this nature has been held so the final figures are anyone’s guess.”
