Uber to collect donated items for Save the Children’s refugee crisis appeal

Howard Lake | 9 September 2015 | News

Transport service Uber has responded to the European refugee crisis by partnering with Save the Children to support is Child Refugee Crisis Appeal.
Today, between the hours of 12pm and 8pm, Uber will collect for free any goods donated by the public, to be sold at one of Save the Children’s nationwide shops. The company is accepting all high quality unwanted clothes, books, homeware, toys, music and films that can be sold by a local Save the Children shop.
In this way the company will be using its technology “to help Uber riders and partner-drivers to raise funds to support refugees in Europe”.

“Helping to move Europe when Europe is moved”

The UBERGIVING campaign is a pan-European response to the refugee crisis. Uber is partnering with charities in 20 European countries.
To donate goods via Uber today:
1. Open the Uber app during the initiative and swipe the slider to ‘GIVING’
2. Request a car – there is no charge – to pick up your donations within minutes
3. Donations will be delivered to Save the Children for sale in their network of shops
Uber added:

“We know our riders are overwhelmingly generous. Therefore, if we receive too many donations for Save the Children to take for their shops, we reserve the right, in conjunction with Save the Children, to agree other appropriate registered charities to receive additional donated items.”
