Easyfundraising raises over £5 million since launch

Online shopping site Easyfundraising.org.uk has raised over £5 million for UK charities since it was launched in 2005.

Lichfield-based owner and founder Ian Woodroffe said: "It’s fantastic that we have helped so many good causes raise money, especially in tough economic conditions and at no cost to them or their supporters."

He attributes some of the success to the ongoing financial problems faced by many. "Consumers spending online to find the best prices may have affected the high street, but it has also provided a new revenue stream for good causes, for no outlay for the cause or its supporters", he said.

Easyfundraising works with over 2,700 online retailers. Every time someone buys something from one of those sites via easyfundraising.org.uk, the retailer gives a small percentage to easyfundraising to share with the chosen good cause. Retailers include major companies including Amazon, John Lewis, Tesco and eBay.

The idea came about for the site when founder Woodroffe, a former telecoms account manager from Walsall, was recovering from cancer.

"I was off work with a lot of time of my hands and it may sound like a cliché but I really wanted to give something back and that’s how the idea for easyfundraising.org.uk came about,” he said.
