Travel agent to donate up to 10% of holiday bookings to charities

Howard Lake | 21 November 2014 | News

West Yorkshire-based independent travel agency has pledged to donate up to 10% of the value of each holiday booked to good causes. In addition it will donate £250 for every person it sends off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
It has just begun to draw up a list of charities to feature on its website for holiday-makers to choose from.

Travel donations

The company will donate 5% of the cost of all brochure holidays booked, and 10% of the cost of all tailor-made trips (excluding flights) to the travellers’ charity of choice.
Since Footloose also specialises in organising guided climbs to the top of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, it will also make a £250 donation to a charity of the traveller’s choice for each booking to climb with Footloose.
Andrew McDougall, director of Footloose, explained:

“Each year, individuals and groups of friends set out on a climb of a life-time, to scale Mount Kilimanjaro, and many of them do so in the name of charity. From now on, when they book their climb with Footloose, we will make a £250 donation to a charity of their choice from our panel.
“Unsurprisingly, the charities we have already spoken to are keen to join the initiative and we look forward to hearing from others wishing to join our panel.”

More charities sought

Charities already selected to benefit include Just a Drop, Wildlife Vets International and Yorkshire Cat Rescue.
Sara Atkinson, founder of Yorkshire Cat Rescue, said:

“This is an amazing initiative and one which could help us raise much needed funds to care for an ever growing number of homeless cats and kittens… If just 10 people booked a typical family holiday with Footloose and nominated us, that could mean an amazing £2,000 donation, or more, to Yorkshire Cat Rescue.”
