Online fundraising platform eSolidar has expanded from Brazil and Portugal to launch in the UK. It lets individuals and charities sell items online to raise funds, and charities post ‘auctions for good’.
Launched in May 2014 by Marco Barbosa in May 2014, eSolidar has already been used at a variety of festivals, including Rock in Rio, where Elton John donated an autographed keyboard to charity.
At this event there were 553 bids for on 34 auctions, raising €35,000 for Conservation International Brazil. The most successful auction was the tribute guitar to celebrate 30 years of Rock in Rio, built by John Cruz, a specialist designer at Fender Guitars. With 67 bids, the guitar raised over €7,000.
The auction of a Dolphin Rocket ST guitar autographed by members of Queen and Adam Lambert, followed closely with 43 bids, raising a total of €3,777.23. Other contributors included Muse, Rod Stewart, Arcade Fire, Katy Perry, One Republic, John Legend, Maroon 5 and Linkin Park.
eSolidar currently has 35,000 registered users, and has raised over £70,000 so far via online donations and auctions.
Individuals selling items on the site can choose what proportion of the sum raised is donated to charity.
Charities are also using the site to auction experiences and celebrity prizes.
Barbosa said:

“The aim of the eSolidar is for people to be able to sell or donate their items easily online, whilst also supporting the causes they care about most. It’s the chance to make some money and do a little good.”
