Researching Charities in ….. Texas

Howard Lake | 14 January 2009 | Blogs

The latest newsletter from Philanthropy Today (http://philanthropy.com/) mentions a report form the Dallas Business Journal (http://digbig.com/4ycqn), which states that Texans will now be able to track how charities spend donations through an online information system. The system, which was established by the Texas attorney general’s office, will allow people to examine charities’ tax returns online. There do not seem to be many of these (Form 990s) on the site yet, and it is not clear what this adds to the information available from Guidestar (www.guidestar.org) and the Foundation Center (http://foundationcenter.org/). However, if it does prove to be useful, it will be interesting to see if this initiative is followed in other states.
I shall leave this one on the very back burner, for quite some time, probably, but you never know – this might be just what you are looking for some day!
