What is an "NFP Tweetup"

According to various sources, a 'tweetup' is a physical meeting of those within the twitter community or who would like to know more about how to engage and hopefully benefit their not for profit organisations (the nfp bit).

From a personal perspective, I have attended several such events now and think the benefits for non-geeks like me are considerably broader than this simple definition.
The opportunity to meet with other people from charities and have a deeper discussion about using twitter in the real world has been invaluable.

Previous discussion topics have included:

• what strategy and tactics work and what doesn't
• how to gain internal buy-in to trying something new
• what gadgets and gizmos are worth investigating and which are rubbish
• how we can find the time to use twitter positively when we have so many other things to do

If nothing else, finding out that you're not alone in trying to absorb and assimilate the latest tech opportunities into your charity's activities is heartening.

The next London NFPtweetup event is being held this week on the 24th and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in using twitter to raise their charity profile and build relationships with peers, supporters and gurus alike.

If the actual meeting is full, you can follow the discussions on the web on the NFPTweetup Facebook page thanks to the folks at Noonan Media.  So even if you can’t make it on the night, there are plenty of ways to take part online.  There will also be lots of output and thoughts from the event posted across various blogs (including this one) and across twitter itself under the#nfptweetup hashtag.

The events are sponsored by JustGiving and Beautiful World who do a great job of facilitating and organising without ever overtly promoting themselves.  A nice change in this day and age!

If you can get involved, I strongly suggest that you do.  If a luddite like me can benefit, I'm sure everyone can.
