Well, how are we all doing then? The Office for National Statistics has published its latest survey on household wealth in Britain. It’s over 170 pages long, so I have not read it fully. Will I ever?
Median (see the report for the definition) household net wealth was £204,500 in 2006/08. The wealthiest 20% of households accounted for 62% of total wealth and the least wealthy half of households had 9% of wealth. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the wealthiest area was the south east of England with a median household wealth of £287,900. The area with the lowest median was Scotland with £150,600.
In 2006/2008, an estimated 62% of households had a savings account, but 50% of those households (with savings accounts) had £3,500 or less in their account and 25% had £500 or less. Apparently, 5% of households own personalised number plates. The report says nothing about donations to charities.
