The organisation I work for has recently taken over a US charity with the same core aims as our own. In the US we now have a supporter base, ground staff and an established programme and are in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) status. We have our acknowledgment letter, and may have to wait 3-18 months for our determination letter.
What I would like to do is hire a consultant to outline for the organisation how our current situation impacts on our ability to fundraise - do we have to wait for the determination letter for example? I've tried contacting some of the well-known names in US fundraising, but they keep trying to sell us places on pre-existing training courses when we actually want something more tailored.
If anyone here has any (positive) experiences of consultants and would be willing to recommend them I'd be glad to hear any suggestions - the people we are in touch with at the moment seem too keen on selling to us without listening to what we actually want!
