Hope springs eternal for Daffodil collection

Daffodil's View
The Irish Cancer Society is hoping this year's Daffodil Day fundraising drive will surpass its €4.25 million target, despite the country’s “changed economic environment”.

Last year, the charity’s annual cancer fundraising day received €3.9m in donations from the public.

While the exact donation through the sale of Daffodil Day pins, the online www.plantadaff.ie awareness campaign, and further small donations from members of the public is not yet known, the charity believes that the money raised this year is likely to surpass previous targets.

Despite the subsequent downturn in the economy in the past 12 months, the Irish Cancer Society said an extra €325,000 is likely to have been raised during last Friday's Daffodil Day, through various fundraising actives.

The highest donations last year came from Dublin (€1.03 million), Cork (€543,312), and Meath (€135,128).
