Birmingham lottery expands to accept other charities

Having raised more than £1.6 million for its three founding charities, Birmingham's TLC Lottery is inviting other charities to join it, with 17 causes already signed up.

Charities that have recently joined the £1 a ticket TLC Lottery include Birmingham Children's Hospital, The Alzheimer's Society and The Foundation for Conductive Education.

Each charity or good cause that joins the expanded TLC will receive 45p of each £1 their supporters spend on playing the lottery. Another 45p will go to TLC's founding - Acorns Children's Hospice, Birmingham Focus on Blindness, and Birmingham St Mary's Hospice.

Organisers say that "much of the remaining 10p will go towards boosting the size of the weekly cash prize", which currently stands at £2,000.

Lottery manager Colin Barrett said: "TLC Lottery has been a phenomenal success, with almost 15,000 weekly players. But now it's time to expand and invite other important causes on board.

Under the scheme we've devised the amounts we raise will increase massively, and that extra will shared evenly between our founders and new causes."

From this month onwards TLC Lottery will accept all charities and good causes nominated by players, a process which is subject only to a simple application being completed by the nominated charity or good cause and accepted by the three owner charities.
