Each Sainsbury store looks for its own local charity of the year

Sainsburys Local Charity of the Year

As part of its 140th birthday celebrations, supermarket Sainsbury's is inviting nominations from shoppers and staff for a local charity for each store. The selected charities will benefit from a year-long link with their local supermarket, with staff getting involved to organise fundraising events including charity collections, and volunteering for the charity.

Nominations are open between 6 - 26 May 2009. You simply have to fill in a short nomination form and post it into the 'Local Charity of the Year' voting box found in all Sainsbury's stores.

Each branch will then draw up a shortlist from all nominations submitted, and representatives from the shortlisted charities will be asked to visit the store to talk to colleagues about what they do and how the Sainsbury's team could support them.

Each winning 'Local Charity of the Year' will be announced in June. The store will then work with the charity throughout the year through volunteering and fundraising.

Sainsbury's local charity of the year to run again

howardlake's picture

I've noticed a lot of activity on and links to this page over the past week, a year after it was published.

I've checked and it does look like Sainsbury's are running the local charity of the year scheme again for 2010, although I can't find any supporting info (including a deadline for applications) on Sainsbury's website.

If anyone finds that, do share the link here.
