Charities expand greetings card sales to include Mother's Day

Charities are this year trying harder to take their share of the Mother’s Day greeting card market, using Charity Greetings’ cards platform. Last year £57.1 million was spent in the UK buying 21.5 million Mother’s Day cards, yet very few charities offer such cards, primarily because of the risk of buying stock.
Charity Greetings founder Craig Hartzel said: “The greetings card industry is worth £1.48 billion per year. Charities should be taking their cut all year round, not just at Christmas.
“The only problem is that it is very expensive to buy stock and fulfil demand and lots of charities simply can’t take on that extra burden. We wanted to provide a solution to this problem and believe that Charity Greetings has done just that.”
Hartzel, who has 11 years experience selling cards online, added that partner charities don’t have to worry about stock or fulfilment using his company’s system. The company provides each charity with a personalised online cards store that integrates with their website. Charities already working with Charity Greetings include the Alzheimer’s Society, Dogs Trust, Cats Protection, and Sightsavers.
Each card sold raises income for the charity. Supporters can also make a voluntary donation as a gift to their recipient when they buy a card.
He believes that charities should not assume that Christmas is the only period in which they can fundraise from greetings card. “This Valentine’s Day”, he commented, “charities with a card shop raised an average of £2.74 per Valentine card sold. Mother’s Day is likely to see far better results.”
