Public urged to do five good things at Twixtmas

Twixtmas

The Twixtmas campaign is once again urging the British public to make the most of the period between Christmas and New Year and indulge in a mass 'binge doing' of charity and voluntary work.

'Twixtmas' consists of the period form 27 to 31 December when many people are 'time rich' and off work. This year campaign organisers hope to encourage 250,000 actions for charity by persuading just 0.1% of the population to take part.

The campaign website offers advice and inspiration to encourage everyone to make the most of this under-used opportunity.

The idea for Twixtmas was originally conceived by social enterprise the Flexible Thinking Forum, as a simple way of creating social good by thinking differently about the period between the two public holidays of Christmas and New Year, and make use of untapped resource, energy, and opportunities.

Each of the five days has a particular focus:

• Day 1: spoil yourself and think more positively about yourself.

• Day 2: do something for someone else, ideally a stranger – help a neighbour or good cause.

• Day 3: help a friend.

• Day 4: do something for the planet.

• Day 5: do something for your future.

Andy Green of the Flexible Thinking Forum said: "Twixtmas is an ideal opportunity for charities and the voluntary sector to nudge people into doing things. It overcomes for many people the excuse of a lack of time and provides an ideal opportunity to do new initiatives or add a Twixtmas angle to on-going programmes."
