New guide to fundraising with Facebook published

Howard Lake | 27 January 2012 | News

UK Fundraising’s Howard Lake has published a new guide offering practical tips on how to fundraise using Facebook. ’40 ways to fundraise with Facebook’ offers a range of practical, low-cost tips to help charities improve how they are using Facebook to support their fundraising activities.
The 20-page book, which features three bonus tips, is available as a digital download from UK Fundraising’s shop.
The tips were pulled together from Lake’s training courses and consultancy work on fundraising using digital and social media, and his coverage of digital fundraising on UK Fundraising.
The book follows Lake’s 2009 guide ‘50 ways to fundraise with Twitter‘, which distilled content from his training course on fundraising with Twitter, which he first ran in March 2009.

How to fundraise with Facebook

“The web is packed with advice and ideas on marketing with Facebook” said Lake, “and on its role in communications by charities, but there was surprisingly little in terms of its use as a fundraising tool.
“Of course, fundraising with Facebook is not as easy as perhaps many of us had hoped. I’ve seen a Facebook employee at a conference state that “Facebook is not for fundraising”, by which he meant it’s not comparable to direct marketing fundraising. But it can be and is being used by numerous charities to support a wide range of fundraising activities, from events, trading, donor recruitment, through to corporate and peer-to-peer fundraising”.
The book is aimed at charities getting started with a Facebook page or keen to overhaul an existing presence which is not raising much.
“There is plenty more charities can be doing with Facebook, such as using the data available in the Open Graph, but that will have to be saved for another guide” added Lake. “This book is designed to get them making the most of what is already there, quickly and at very low cost”.
