Fundraising income for Barnardos in Ireland fell from €8.5 million in 2009 to €7.5 million in 2010, according to the charity's latest annual report.
The annual report also showed how difficult trading has been for Barnardos with their shops operation losing nearly €50,000 on sales of €1.052 million. Total income fell from €26 million to €24 million. Barnardos received 63% of its income from the government in 2010.
Barnardos said its cash income in 2010 was €5.3 million which suggests that the balance of income, just over €2 million, was in-kind support.
Donations represented 22% of total income in 2010, shops 4.4% and trusts 9%. Barnardos continues to receive significant funding from the One Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies.
The cost of generating income fell from €3.5 million to €3.2 million between 2009 and 2010.
Barnardos says that its fundraising target for this year is €7 million.
