Online publisher Venturian Media has created udopt.co.uk, an animal adoption site offering charitable gift ideas for adults and children.

The site features the udopt'r tool which visitors can use to match their "character traits with that of their perfect animal alter-ego".

Gifts on sale on the site include animal adoptions with WWF UK and The Aspinall Foundation, sponsor a puppy from Guide Dogs, and RSPB sponsorships. All adoptions come with certificates, fact sheets and updates through the year.

Udopt explains that "udopt is an aggregator of UK based animal adoption products that are provided by third party charities and zoo’s." It features some of the fundraising products made available by the charities via affiliate marketing schemes and works with others directly. All of them work on a pay-per-performance basis, meaning that they only pass on a fee to udopt when it generates a donation or purchase. As udopt points out, this makes it a "risk-free" option for charities.

Ross Travill, co-owner of Venturian Media and udopt, said: "udopt supports the exemplary work done by the animal charities such as WWF, Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Aspinall Foundation and the RSPB through a series of strategic partnerships."

Venturian Media said that in 2011 it raised £1,500,000 through its charity network, signed up 12,000 direct debit donors and helped to distribute 10,000 charity gifts. It anticipates "raising £250,000 by Christmas Day" via udopt.
