Charity develops free online Gift Aid module for CiviCRM users

Blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has developed Gift Aid software that will enable it and other charities to use HMRC’s new Charities Online electronic submission system which comes into effect on 22 April.

The tool is a free extension for CiviCRM, the web-based, open source Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software. It will help charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs to claim Gift Aid quickly and efficiently, submitting their claim directly from within CiviCRM.

Thomas Muirhead, head of digital and CRM at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “The work we’ve done is immediately available to all charities using CiviCRM and available free of charge. Why should charities have to pay for the same work to be done over and over again?”

He added: “The speed and flexibility that open source technology offers is fantastic and perfectly fits our culture here at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. We want to share our development because we’re keen to have a wider social impact as an organisation.”

According to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, the extension, carried out by technology company Veda Consulting, makes CiviCRM “the first major fundraising software to be ready for HMRC’s new online system”.
