Virgin Money Giving launches mobile optimised site

Online giving service Virgin Money Giving has launched a mobile website to enable fundraisers to invite their contacts to support them with a donation via a mobile device.

The newly optimised site has been created by mobile and multichannel specialists Usablenet. It goes live a few days before the Virgin London Marathon, the biggest single fundraising event in the UK calendar. The site can of course be used for other charity fundraising events as well.

Virgin Money Giving is the not-for-profit online fundraising arm of Virgin Money and has been handling online donations since 2009.

The company said that, according to recent research that it had commissioned, 80% of charities surveyed said that digital technology was the key to increasing income, yet 76% of charities did not have their own mobile-friendly website.

Holly Branson, patron of Virgin Money Giving, who ran the London Marathon in 2010, said: "I know from running my own charity, Big Change Charitable Trust, how important it is for people to be able to donate quickly, easily and efficiently. Often people donate ‘in the moment’ and via a mobile is the quickest and easiest way when you’re on the go.”
