Celebrity Big Brother raises £480,000 for 11 charities

Channel 4 reality show Celebrity Big Brother has raised an estimated £480,000 for the 11 contestants' nominated charities, with income being generated from viewers' votes.

During the 23-day run of this year's Celebrity Big Brother, nearly 3 million votes were cast, with part of the fees being donated to the contestants' charities.

Celebrities design phones to raise funds for ChildLine

Celebrities including Kate Winslet, Richard E Grant and Simon Cowell have designed special phones to raise funds for ChildLine as part of BT's Big Listen Week (10-16 October).

The phone creations are being showcased and auctioned online for 10 days.

NSPCC ambassador Kylie Minogue is helping the charity encourage schools to sign up for its national maths-focused fundraising event, Number Day 2004, which will be held on 1 December 2004 and aims to raise £200,000 for the FULL STOP Appeal to end child cruelty.

Harry Potter screening raises £65,000 for NCH

A charity screening of 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' has raised £65,000 for children's charity NCH. Cast member Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) and celebrity Harry Potter fans including Linda Barker, Jack Ellis ('Bad Girls') and Sharron Davies attended the screening at the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square.

Anthea Turner encourages charities online

TV celebrity Anthea Turner has encouraged charities to get online. Helping to launch free charity ISP Care4free, Anthea said: "charities should utilise the opportunities that the Internet brings as much as possible. I think it would be a big mistake if they don't."
