150 charities sign up to online charity Christmas card service

By the time that new online charity Christmas card venture Studio51 launched its website this month, over 150 charities had signed up to use its service, which donates 51% of the sale price to charities.

A new online charity Christmas card venture launching at the Institute of Fundraising Convention today (stand 20) is committed to passing 51% of the sale price to charities, compared to a typical 10%, or less, from cards sold through high street retailers.

Telegraph's Christmas appeal raises over £1 million

The Telegraph Media Group's 2006 Christmas Charity Appeal has raised over £1 million pounds from readers of The Daily and Sunday Telegraph newspapers and Telegraph.co.uk.

William Lewis, Editor of The Daily Telegraph, will today be presenting donations from the appeal to its three beneficiary charities - SSAFA Forces Help, The Microloan Foundation and Chailey Heritage School.

Bmycharity goes one better than simple Christmas e-card

Online giving service Bmycharity is once again sending its clients and contacts an e-card instead of a traditional printed corporate card and making a donation to charity. This year though it is asking recipients to choose which of three charities will get a their £2 per recipient donation.

The Charities Advisory Trust surveys all main high street shops which offer ‘charity’ Christmas cards (the fieldwork is carried out in the last week of October / first week of November). The purpose of the awards is to alert the public to cards purporting to be charity cards where less than 10% of the purchase price actually goes to charity.
