Survey on international alumni efforts

An American university is asking other universities how they manage their international alumni activities.

The International Advancement Programs office at Michigan Technological University is conducting a survey to determine international alumni efforts currently being used. They are seeking input from a range of universities.

Mailsort price cuts will bring savings for charities

Royal Mail will this week reduce the price tariffs for its Mailsort products, a move that will save the businesses, including charities, up to £17 million a year.

First European anti-spam day to be held this month

The first anti-spam 'Dunk the Junk Day' takes place on 22 May 2003 and aims to raise public awareness of spam or unsolicited commercial e-mail.

The campaign day is being supported by Web portal Yahoo! It will include an awards event at which the UK's worst spammers will be named and shamed.

Macmillan Cancer Relief has launched its first ever television fundraising campaign to secure new donors and increase the awareness and understanding of Macmillan's work.

Oxfam says "we don't want your money"

Oxfam's latest advertising campaign for their Make Trade Fair petition is explicitly saying they don't want donations.

Instead, they are asking for SMS messages to add to their petition. The campaign is appearing online and in the national press. Oxfam hopes to generate a further 500,000 signatures to its Big Noise petition.

Reading Is Fundamental launches Clifford the Big Red Dog badges

Reading Is Fundamental, UK, an initiative of the National Literacy Trust, is to partner with The Big Badge Company to produce Clifford The Big Red Dog badges for sale from Summer 2003.

The badges will be produced in three designs to collect and will retail at £1 with 70p of each sale going directly to RIF, UK to support the promotion of children's literacy.

Stamp prices to rise by 1p

Postal prices are to rise by 1p on Thursday 8 May 2003, so now's the time to save money by buying in bulk.

The new rate for an ordinary First Class letter will be 28p while the cost for Second Class will rise to 20p. This is the first rise in basic postal prices in three years.

Other postal price rises will affect Special Delivery, parcels, and items over 60g.

Simon will take up the position on 6th May 2003 after three years as Director of Fundraising & Communications at Acorn's Children's Hospice.

British Legion awards two marketing contracts

The Royal British Legion has awarded two three-year contracts to marketing agencies Citigate Albert Frank and Target Direct.

The agencies, who have both worked with the Legion before, will focus on the development of the award-winning Poppy Appeal campaign, and on the 60th anniversary of D-Day in 2004 and VE Day in 2005.

New SMS fundraising service launched

Smstextgiving is a new service offering to handle donations by text message for charities and community groups across Northern Ireland, the UK and Ireland.

Mobile phone users will be able to send a one-off text message instruction to a dedicated number managed by smstextgiving on behalf of a particular charity.
