It's difficult to stand out from so many fundraising events, but Imperial Cancer Research Fund have done so by coming up with a novel idea for a sponsored event. They are asking men to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by wearing a bra to work on the outside of their shirt.

Charities know that they need PCs to fundraise. UK Fundraising has started to help fundraisers by listing resources that help you locate unwanted IT equipment. There is only one resource at present, a US site, but more will be added.

$1m art auction online

The Beverly Hills Charity Auction Online is launching an online auction of an art collection valued at $1 million. The auction will benefit America Search and Rescue . The company running the auction expects to auction more than $23 million worth of goods in its first year.

Edinburgh Festival tickets on sale online for the first time

The Edinburgh Festival is now offering tickets for sale online for the first time. With donated servers from Compaq, the arts organisation is running a ticket sales pilot . However, the system isn't linked to the box office database, so only a set number of tickets in each block of each venue are available for purchase online.

What a ball

The "world's first virtual charity ball" is due to take place soon. Sponsored by the Good Samaritan Foundation in Kentucky, you can see what the virtual mansion at which the ball will be held looks like, but doors will not open until November 20. The event will run until December 5, 1998.

Guide Dogs for the Blind uses e-mail newsletter advert

Guide Dogs for the Blind is promoting a fundraising auction with an advert within a popular e-mail newsletter. Very few charities have paid attention to using third-party e-mail newsletters to promote their work, so GDBA should be praised for this activity.

International conference bursaries announced

Two sponsored places at the International Fundraising Workshop in Amsterdam in October are being offered to professional fundraisers by Fundraising Appointments, a part of the Charity Appointments Group.

ICFM vote reminder

ICFM members are being asked to vote for members for the ICFM Executive Committee. Nine nominations for the five vacancies have been received. Ballot papers have been sent to members, and completed papers should be returned to ICFM's offices no later than 16th June.
