Electronic money a threat to donations

Electronic money could result in reduced donations being given to charity, according to a study commissioned by Bull Information Systems.

Reports have reached the ICFM of more than one bogus Lord approaching charities in relation to fundraising. In the last issue of ICFM's Update readers were warned of a 'Lord Houston'. Now it seems there is an equally dubious 'Lord Lanchester' who successfully duped a Bond Street gallery into letting him walk off with a painting without paying for it.

Campaign to extend tax-free donations to the arts

The Independent on Sunday newspaper began a campaign on 8th February "to stop the rot in the arts." In particular they are campaigning "for a change in taxation policy which would permit individuals to make simple tax-free contributions to theatres, orchestras, museums and galleries". The newspaper feels that the UK government could learn from the US Internal Revenue Service.
