New name for CAF's Common Investment Funds

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is renaming its Common Investment Funds to reflect better their underlying assets.

From 1 January 2004, the CAF Balanced Growth Fund will be re-titled the CAF UK Equity Growth Fund, and the CAF Income Fund will be re-titled the CAF Bond Income Fund.

Changes to "eligible body" for VAT exemption for cultural organisations

HM Customs & Excise has now recognised that 'voluntary' in UK law means 'essentially voluntary'. As a result more cultural organisations may become eligible bodies and therefore not charge VAT on admission fees, and others may be able to reclaim VAT already charged.

CFDG finds Pre-Budget Report "disappointing"

The Charity Finance Directors' Group (CFDG) has expressed disappointment at the Pre-Budget Report.

Responding to the Chancellor's annual analysis of the economy, CFDG said that the Chancellor had missed the opportunity to address major problems which impede the charitable sector, and in particular, irrecoverable VAT.

New Manager at Charities Buying Group

Stephen Morgon has been appointed as manager at the Charities Buying Group (CBG), the initiative led by Leonard Cheshire to help other charities reduce their expenditure on goods and services.

Morgon took up his post on 1 December 2003, and will work from home. His role is to work with member charities of the CBG to develop savings opportunities.

Colchester charities best in south east for submitting accounts

Charities in Colchester are the best in the Home Counties at submitting their annual accounts on time, according to figures from the Charity Commission.
