The Commission's guide entitled 'Charities and Insurance (CC49)' has been comprehensively revised.

UIA Insurance Limited (UIA), the only specialist affinity insurer to the non-profit sector, has re-branded in response to independent customer research into its values.

The new brand is designed to reflect UIA's mutual status, experience and distinctive position within the non-profit sector.

PKF boosts London charity and housing team

Rupert Moyle has joined the VAT team at accountants and business advisors PKF. He brings specialist knowledge of the registered social landlords and charity sectors.

Rupert joins PKF as VAT manager and is based at the firm's London head office, where he will work with clients in the charity/housing sectors on all issues related to indirect tax. PKF has 400 clients in these sectors.

Dickens £10 note no longer legal tender from tomorrow

The Dickens £10 note will not be legal tender from after today.

The Bank of England will withdraw the £10 note with a portrait of Charles Dickens on the reverse from tomorrow. If your charity still has any of these notes they should be paid promptly into a bank, Post Office or building society.

Charity Logistics challenges insurance industry

Charity Logistics has invited the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to substantiate its claim that ABI members, providing cover for charities, are "losing money hand over fist from this kind of work."

CFDG welcomes futurebuilders

The Charity Finance Directors' Group has given a big welcome to the proposals for futurebuilders and its much needed investment in capital projects.

CFDG particularly welcomed the plans to devote 80% of futurebuilder funds to capital investment. CFDG has argued that investment in efficiency and capital projects has for too long been under funded.

Charity pens hit by Customs ruling on VAT

The free charity pen beloved by many direct marketing fundraisers could disappear following a ruling on VAT.

HM Customs and Excise is to require suppliers to charge VAT on pens to charities who insert them in fundraising direct mail packs. This will probably make this model too expensive for charities to continue to use.
