Simon Community Northern Ireland is running a campaign this Christmas designed to get companies and individuals to give to charity rather than spend money on cards. Christmas Greetings Campaign offers local businesses the opportunity to wish their clients Seasons Greetings whilst simultaneously helping people who will be homeless this Christmas.

Charities launch new payroll giving initiative

Six of Northern Ireland's best known charities have joined together to create a payroll giving consortium. The consortium, called Northern Ireland Charities Together (NICT), will provide employees with the opportunity to give to charity through pre-tax donations direct from the payroll.

Conference will examine fundraising regulation

A conference planned for 9th November in Dublin will discuss proposed government legislation on the regulation of fundraising. Organised by the Irish Charity Tax Reform Group, the conference 'From Policy to Practice - Charity Regulation,' will focus on what can be learned from regulation of UK charities.

Charity concern grows over possible postal dispute

Irish charities planning to conduct major mail appeals running up to Christmas are becoming increasingly concerned about a possible postal strike by the unions representing the An Post workforce. At least five charities in Ireland are planning to meet the 21st November postaim deadline which gives big discounts for bulk mailings.

Modernisation Fund distribution plans revealed

The government fund worth £18 million to assist the voluntary sector in Northern Ireland to modernise has produced draft guidelines. The Modernisation Fund has been established to provide resources above normal funding mechanisms to help promote modernization and change within the voluntary and community sector and to enhance the capacity of the sector to deliver services.

Charities share ‚€2 million legacy

Four Irish charities are to share in the ‚€2 million proceeds from the sale of a house in Dublin. Dr Gearoid Crookes left the property at 18 Fitzwilliam Place to St Vincent de Paul, Trocaire, Concern and Bothar.

A group of Irish charities have come together to promote legacy giving in Ireland. The group, which includes many of the top charities, will start their activities by commissioning detailed research on legacies.

Police and NSPCC partnership wins Link Award

The top Link Award has been presented to the Police Service of Northern Ireland for its fundraising achievements and support for NSPCC Northern Ireland. The Link Awards are organised by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action to recognise corporate support for the voluntary sector.

Chuggers not so bad according to Irish survey

Chuggers have come out of a survey of people in Northern Ireland relatively favourably according to research conducted for the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action. A significant number of people, however, are concerned about where their donations go.

Irish government offers lottery compensation grants

The Department of Finance in the Irish Republic is inviting applications for compensation from groups which run charitable lotteries. The Charitable Lotteries Fund was set up in 1997 to provide funds from the proceeds of the National Lottery to supplement the income of private charitable lotteries whose products are competing with the National Lottery.
