Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has urged community groups in Ireland to apply for grants from a ‚€1.46m fund to tackle racism. The money is coming from the sale of five million Stand Up Speak Up wristbands, black and white interlocking bands which have been modelled by sports stars including Henry.

Times names rich of Northern Ireland

The new Sunday Times Rich List has identified 50 of Northern Ireland's richest people in its latest listing. The total estimated wealth of Irish people who make the list is nearly £30 billion.

Topping the list is Sean Quinn from Fermanagh who is estimated to be worth £810 million. Second, but way behind Quinn, is Edward Haughey who owns Norbrook, an animal pharmaceutical business.

Charity CD sales raises ‚€200,000

Irish radio station Today FM has raised ‚€200,000 for two local charities from the sales of a specially recorded CD. The money was shared between Barretstown, which provides breaks for children with serious illnesses, and the National Children's Hospital.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help save the life of a man from County Kildare. Mick Springate has sarcoma, a rare form of lung cancer, and has relocated to New York to increase his chances of survival.

Big Lottery Fund offers active lifestyles grants

The Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland is offering grants valued at £2.1 million to increase people's participation in physical activities. Active Lifestyles will make grants for small projects up to £1000 and medium grants up £30,000.

Salesforce helps homeless

Salesforce.com, the US software firm which has its European base in Dublin, is funding a programme to help people who are homeless in Dublin return to education and work. The City of Dublin YMCA was one of 21 organisations worldwide to share more than ‚€100,000 from Salesforce.com.
