Alzheimer's DM backfires

Callers to BBC Radio Ulster have complained about the content of a recent mailing from the Alzheimer Society.

Callers to the BBC said the mailing pack caused undue alarm by raising fears that they would be sufferers of Alzheimer's.

A spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Society apologised for any distress caused by the mailing.

New appointment at Action Cancer

Northern Ireland charity Action Cancer has ended their protracted search for a new head of fundraising.

Dougie King, currently head of fundraising at mental health charity Praxis, will take up the post at Action Cancer soon.

Dougie previously ran the fundraising department at Disabililty Action, the main disability charity in Northern Ireland.

Clinton attends Irish fundraising events

Former US president Bill Clinton was the star guest at two Irish fundraising events last week. The events were run by disability charity RehabCare and AIDS charity, The Rose Project.

Buoyant market for N Ireland fundraisers

The Irish Cancer Society, one of Ireland's leading charities, has advertised to replace its longstanding head of fundraising, James Cassidy, who is retiring.

Ireland set to have postcodes

The Republic of Ireland will have postcodes from 1 January 2008 following an announcement from Noel Dempsey, Minister for Communications, Marine and National Resources. Ireland is one of the few developed countries with no postcode system and around 40% of addresses are not unique.

Concern 'grows' money

Concern has developed a database-driven Flash application website where you can watch your support 'grow' with each donation. The site has been developed with online agency ICAN.

Called The Giving Field, the site is a virtual reality field where you can choose a cyber seed, watch it being virtually planted and visit 24 hours a day to see how the field has been growing.
