Two new categories for UK Fundraising Forum?

Users of the UK Fundraising Forum have suggested new categories, so we are currently taking a vote on whether there is a need for them.

It has been suggested that the UK Fundraising Forum adds a new category for the discussion of community or local fundraising. Cast your vote before 15 October 2004.

Collector raises just £15 in one day

A nurse who spent all day collecting on the street for a homeless organisation raised just £15.38.

It's not much comfort, but sometimes fundraising just doesn't work. Kathy Cubitt raised £15.38 with her collecting tin in Ipswich; £5 of the total was donated by a refugee whom the group had earlier helped to find food and shelter.

Hospice lotteries "regularly played by 1% of UK population"

A recent study by UK lottery service provider Sterling Management Centre Ltd has revealed that at least 1% of the UK population regularly plays hospice lotteries.


The research, conducted across 65 hospices in the UK, identified 610,000 people playing their local lottery on a weekly basis.

New £5 coin produced

The Royal Mint has created a new £5 coin that is legal tender so can be accepted as a donation.

The £5 crown has been issued to commemorate the centenary of the Entente Cordiale, the agreement between Britain and France. The two symbolic figures of Britannia and Marianne appear on the reverse, merged at the waist as if on a court playing card.
