Tax breaks for alumni could build university endowments

A report on university endowment funds calls for tax breaks for graduates to help establish and increase endowment funds for UK universities.

The report "University Endowments" by the Sutton Trust points out that only five UK universities have endowments worth £100 million or more, compared to 207 universities in the USA.

Charities' administration costs are 5% says survey

Research by Henley Management College into fundraising expenditure has found that charities' administration costs are 5% of total expenditure and 5% of total income.

Interim results of the research by Adrian Sargeant are based on 182 responses from the 500 top charities by income.

New chair for Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales

Professor Robert Boyd will succeed Joanna Foster CBE as Chair of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, with effect from November 2003.

Professor Body has been Principal of St. George's Hospital Medical School since 1996, Pro Vice- Chancellor for Medicine at the University of London from 2000, and was previously a Consultant Children's doctor for 30 years.

applying to them. It is aimed at trustees, charity workers, lawyers and accountants needing a working introduction to the subject.

Mike Lake, Director General of Help the Aged, has been appointed as a Trustee of the recently launched Air Ambulance Foundation.

Lake's charity interests include the interface between governance and management, the growing commercial nature of the sector and the role of charities in society.

RSPB overhauls Web site with content management solution

The RSPB has redesigned its Web site to increase membership recruitment and revenue generation, using Tridion's content management solution.

Using Tridion, regional offices of the RSPB will be able to develop and post relevant content on the site, while the Web team at HQ will continue to retain overall control over structure, design and programming.
