Ministers' yes

Government ministers have been asked to donate an hour's salary to five children's charities as part of a Millennium fundraising scheme. Peter Mandelson asked ministers to give their income for the last hour of 1999 as part of the Children's Promise campaign. Tony Blair was the first to agree, it appears. He will be donating a reported £52.50, and other ministers at least about £46.

Diana Fund update

Although the first grants from the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund have already been announced, leaflets setting out the criteria for future grant-making will not be available until late August/early September. Six charities with whom the Princess was involved received grants in March of around £1 million each.

Homeless charity's fundraising manager vacancy

Emmaus UK is seeking to recruit a fundraiser with five or more years' experience of fundraising, including direct marketing. The charity is part of an international movement set up 50 years ago working in the fields of homelessness and social marginalisation with a network of Communities across 44 countries. Closing date for applications is 6th June 1998.

Bare-faced fundraising

The secret is out!

Land mine charities slow to receive grants

The Director of the Mines Advisory Group claimed that organisations that remove land-mines from the ground had not yet received a penny towards their work from the Diana, Princess of Wales' Memorial Fund. Lou McGrath is reported in The Independent as expressing concern that the fund is "becoming an industry in itself and is not solving the problem".

Diana logo spreads

The first consumer product to carry the logo of the Diana, Princess of Wales' Memorial Fund is a tub of margarine. Flora has teamed up with the charity as part of the Flora London Marathon, and hopes to raise £250,000 for the Fund. The logo appears with the word "Thanks" on the side of the tubs, which went on sale nationwide on 23rd March.

Legacy opportunity missed

On 2nd March the Will of the late Diana, Princess of Wales was published. You can read the full text, courtesy of a number of online news publications.

Lords of Misrule

Reports have reached the ICFM of more than one bogus Lord approaching charities in relation to fundraising. In the last issue of ICFM's Update readers were warned of a 'Lord Houston'. Now it seems there is an equally dubious 'Lord Lanchester' who successfully duped a Bond Street gallery into letting him walk off with a painting without paying for it.
