A survey for the Legacy Promotion Campaign (LPC) has found that more people than ever will not leave a charitable bequest in their will.

NOP carried out the research for the LPC and found that 40% of 50-65 year olds were not likely to include a charity in their will. Fifty four per cent felt leaving charitable legacies were of "little importance".

Tax-effective donations to charity through Gift Aid and covenants now total £2 billion, according to a report out today from Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

Based on figures from the Inland Revenue, CAF has calculated that giving through these methods grew by 13% between 2000 and 2002. The Gift Aid system was radically simplified in the 2000 Budget.
