The Barclays/NGO Finance Charity 100 Index reports that charities which compete head on with the private sector in commercial trading are reaping big rewards. Net income from trading for the UK's largest charities, is now well over £100 million a year and has more than doubled since 1992, including a sharp rise in the latest year of more than 18 per cent.

Small UK charities on the Web: a survey

Jeff Howarth is surveying the use of the Web by small charities in the UK, and is looking for charities to take part. Charities who own a web site and have an annual turnover of under £500,000 are encouraged to take part. The questionnaire for his research has been made available at CharityNet, the first in a series of student research of charities' online activities.

ICFM Membership survey

The Institute of Charity Fundraising Managers has distributed a questionnaire to its members asking for opinions on how to develop its services to members. The last membership survey was conducted in 1994 and revealed a desire among members for a professional qualification for fundraisers.
