Local newspapers to fundraise online for charities

US local newspapers are being offered free software from an e-commerce supplier to encourage them to launch appeals with local charities. Open Market, Inc and InfiNet have announced their 1999 We Care programme, "a national online community-giving program for the holiday season."

Eiger Systems has developed a system that allows charities to accept direct debits via the Web. Charities can therefore add a key method of fundraising to their Web-site.
